About the workshop

Food safety has become a great cause of concern for all. The FAO on the occasion of World Food Safety Day, has said, “If it isn’t safe, it isn’t food.” Unsafe food is a constant threat to consumer health and create hurdles to achieving food security for consumers. Recently, food adulteration has assumed serious proportions leading to health hazards. From milk and milk products, fats and oils, raw fruits and vegetables, cereals or spices every single item is adulterated with inferior quality ingredients, harmful chemicals or misbranded to cheat the consumers and earn economic gain. Therefore, prevention is the key. Imparting information regarding simple methods of identifying adulterants at home and empowering them regarding the food laws and consumer rights can go a long way in protecting consumer health. Promoting a cadre of well informed consumers who shop and prepare food is important to creating consumer demand for safe, nutritious food under the Eat Safe initiative of FSSAI.
